This is a real-life case study that focuses on the impacts of implementing a homestay program on a Day School community. Now in its third year of existence, the Family Boarding Program at Glenlyon Norfolk School has quite literally changed the face of the school. More than 80 students from countries around the world take part in this unique cultural and academic experience, adding new perspectives and a sense of diversity that benefits every member of the GNS community. However, the addition of such a diverse group of students requires a coordinated approach in order to ensure a smooth transition, both in the classroom and in the community.

As part of our commitment to developing a program that is of the very highest order, the school is in regular contact with all members of the community to assess the program’s strengths and to identify areas that need attention. Feedback is gathered from faculty, staff, parents and students to allow us to develop a framework that maximizes the experience of not only our international student and host families, but of everyone directly and indirectly associated with our international students. By engaging with as broad a constituent base as possible, we maximize the likelihood of maintaining a program that is responsive and proactively addresses issues as they arise while at the same time securing optimal levels of support from the entire community.
